Our Coffee Shop - Recipes

Like any successful coffee shop, we have our own recipes! We have found that these great recipes help ensure that everyone has an enjoyable experience when they visit Our Coffee Shop.

As a moderator, we ask you to help us ensure that the visitors to Our Coffee Shop continue to enjoy their experience here by following both good amateur radio operator practice, and, by leading by example. Following these recipes that have been a great success.

Here are the basics:

1. Users must apply for membership

To become a member of Our Coffee Shop, a user must submit an email request. Emails are to be sent to [email protected]. Please include your name and call sign and a statement expressing your wish to become a member of Our Coffee Shop.

Applicants will be placed "on the bench", a probationary period for prospective members. To complete this process, within a period of 2 months the prospective member MUST check in to the Morning Breakfast Group, or the evening Coffee Break, at least 10 different days in each of the 2 months.

At the end of the 2 month period you should have a good understanding of the 5 second pause between transmissions, the 2.5 minute transmission timer, and the mechanics of our gravitational round table. The progress of your probation time on the bench will be on our website on the page "More Coffee". Http://our-coffee-shop.webs.com/morecoffee.htm

2. Leave a 5 second pause between transmissions

Always leave 5 seconds between transmissions. This brief pause will allow link stations an opportunity to control their link as it must be done between transmissions. Moderators should set the example and remind users to follow the recipe. Explaining why might be helpful.

3. Transmissions no longer than 2.5 Minutes

When the room is crowded, it may take quite a while for a users turn to come around again and the 2.5 minute helps give everyone a chance to take part in the discussion. Always limit your transmissions to 2.5 minutes or less.

4. Welcome newcomers to the room immediately

Remember to welcome each newcomer to the room immediately if possible. Let them know that in Our Coffee Shop, everybody is somebody, and when their name gets to the bottom of the list it will be their turn to talk. This will help make the newcomers feel welcome, acknowledged, and promote order so they won't key up out of turn.

5. No conference connections in Our Coffee Shop

All users of Our Coffee Shop should connect directly. This will provide for the identification of each connected station and their proper position placing in our gravitational round table.

6. Link stations are permitted and encouraged

Users must have direct control over your link station if you wish to connect to Our Coffee Shop. No identification tones please.

7. No repeater connections

Repeater connections to Our Coffee Shop are generally not permitted. In the event someone should connect to Our Coffee Shop through a repeater, they must disconnect the repeater from Our Coffee Shop immediately upon completing their conversation. This is to facilitate and maintain order in Our Coffee Shop and to provide for appropriate station identification in the user list.

8. Members must remain active

Members that fail to check in to either the morning group or the evening group for a period of 6 months will be listed as inactive, or "decaffeinated".  Members who are decaffeinated must send an email to [email protected] and request to have their membership reinstated. This email should include a narrative reason for your absence.

9. One on one chat

Our Coffee Shop is not a one on one chat site. When you take part in Our Coffee Shop you speak to the entire group and the group talks back to you. One on one chat would leave the other members out of the conversation. If you need to speak directly with another member we would encourage you to either connect directly with that member outside of Our Coffee Shop, or, use the "Back Room", a separate EchoLink node that does not use these recipes.
